When quoting the fabrication of any item, it's often easier to see a 3D version to visualise the end product. I've previously used Google SketchUp (a suprisingly powerful and FREE 3D modelling software; the non-Pro version is free) for modelling our new house during it's construction to determine shadow/shade positions to figure out the design of the patio, gardens, paths etc. In this case it was used for a much simpler task and it's very quick and easy to draw up these designs (only took an hour or so). I could have drawn them up by hand, but I always have fun with any CAD type work.
