Radiator Design - Update

The design of the radiator has been tweaked slightly - for two reasons. The Davies Craig fan I ordered arrived and I found that with the bottom tank outlet on a 45degree angle, the hose would foul against the fan shroud. Secondly, I bought a inline temperature sensor adapter which sits in the coolant line and by using the standard Starlet upper radiator hose, it would not be long enough to fit the adapter.

The lower outlet fouling against the shroud.

This was solved by simply making the lower oulet 30mm straight out from the tank, and then have a 45degree angle

I went to my local auto store and rummaged through their random collection of 28-30mm ID radiator hoses in an attempt to find any that had any tightish ~90degree radii and also long enough to fit the temperature sender adapter. With luck, I found a Toyota Camry lower radiator hose fit the bill perfectly with one 90degree bend and one close-enough-to-90degree bend, and a straight middle section.

I trimmed the ends of this piece and it was a lovely fit.

NOTE : The design of the upper radiator hose has been redesigned since getting the radiator made and fitted - see July 2012 post http://mearcatmini.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/engine-bay-air-pipework.html

So the locations of the pipes in the top tank have been moved and the thermocouple bung also deleted.
