My mate Rob (who is doing the same 4E-FTE engine conversion as me here in Perth - see his blog here http://glanzamini.blogspot.com/ ) wanted to borrow the Idle Control Valve as he has some idle hunt issues when the engine is running. So I decided to clean the valve before he borrowed it. The ICV bolts onto the side of the inlet manifold (opposite end to the throttle body) and is one of a couple of valves on the engine that uses to adjust the idle when any peripherals eg. power steering are used at idle.
I thought I'd put a little tutorial on how to clean the valve. The valve is an expensive bit of kit so care must be taken when performing this task. It's a quick 10 minute job.
Firstly, take note of the orientation of the top & bottom pieces. Pry the tabs holding the top section up slightly with a flathead screwdriver. Use a set of pointy-nose pliers to further bend them so that the top section can be removed.

Remove the top section

The valve assembly is then exposed. As you can see, mine was covered in crud.


Using a very small screwdriver, lever off the rubber/copper assembly. Note that there is a spring between the rubber/copper assembly and the actuator.


Spray everything with something like carby cleaner and clean everything of oil etc. Be CAREFUL with the copper piece as it is very delicate. Once clean, assemble the spring, copper/rubber assembly and two pieces in the right orientation. A vice can be used to carefully clamp the tabs back into place.

I am having a problem with idling as well as loss of power. Getting error code o 31 and changed map sensor but problem still exist. Really need help
