I'll be dropping the shell off to sandblaster this weekend and it's prompted me to think about what tools and parts I need for the next step of the build - the front subframe and then custom pieces/tabs/brackets. I have a 120 Amp arc welder but when it comes to small brackets and tacking them to panels or bodywork, the arc welder will easily blow a hole in a thin 1mm panel. I looked around for weeks for a MIG to buy but I can't justify a decent amount of money a good quality & brand gas MIG (up to AUD$1000). There are lots of comments online that degrade gasless MIG welders due to the messier welds and spatter, however they do have their place in the market for the basic workshop.
I found a second hand SIP 100 Amp gasless MIG today (for a bargain $150) and after only about 10 minutes of testing this evening, I got these welds (about 50mm long each) so I'm relatively happy with it. For the basic tacks & short stitch welds I need, it's a perfect buy.
