The EP82 Starlet GT front cut is here

I picked up the EP82 Starlet GT front cut yesterday over lunch. I inspected the engine which has got 135,000km on the clock - completely stock standard engine except for a pod filter which had been removed at some point. I was initially dubious given the relatively high kms, but upon inspection there was absolutely NO indication of any oil blowby in the intake, compression test performed at the workshop was good (154psi in cyl 1,3,4 and 150psi in the cyl 2; new engine is 160psi), spark plugs were fine, inside the rocker cover was as amazingly clean and Ben (owner of KYP) also advised that using a borescope to view the surface of the cylinder bores through the spark plug holes, there is no scoring. The owner of car has obviously been taken very good care of the car with very regular oil changes/services.

As a comparison, I had a look at another front cut (EP91) that KYP had in stock with ~69K on the clock and conversely the intake had a light film of oil through the intake piping and oil was black on the dipstick and caked all over the rockers and rocker cover & fill cap. Obviously NOT taken care of.

I always tell everyone I can - PERFORM REGULAR OIL CHANGES!!!! It's the key to making your engine last and maintaining it's performance. For higher performance & turbocharged cars do it every 5000km WITHOUT FAIL! For the sake of $50-60, compared to the thousands of dollars the car and engine is worth, just do it. You're an idiot if you don't. Personally, I'll be changing the oil, filter, timing belt, front & rear crankshaft seals, big end bearings and checking the water & oil pump before I even consider installing it in the Mini and running it.

I'll sort out a pallet for the front cut to sit on and some castor wheels next week so I can put the front cut in the corner of the garage and start work. First step, work out what the wires are that are sticking out of the sills that woudl normally to lead to the rear of the car. 2nd step, confirm all relays and switches are etc working. Step 3 : With roll of duct tape, permanent marker & camera in hand, start removing wiring and ancilleries, label EVERYTHING, take LOTS of photos and bag up everything small in labelled ziplock bags. I would also recommend keeping all the little items like cable and hose clips as they can be very useful when installing the engine into the Mini.
