It was really hot today (38 degC) so I took the time to finish off the doors on my workbench and keep out of the heat. The bench has a full metal frame with 50x50mm square tube for the main posts and 20x20mm square tube for the rest. I have the bottom 2 big drawers on each side with 40kg rollers to store all my tools, welder, saws, drills etc etc with ease, and a smaller drawer at the top for screwdrivers and smaller and readily used parts It makes looking for things so much easier than just shelves!! Although on the left, I have two 1.5m wide shelves so I can store my rolls of fibreglass cloth and dismantled engine crane & engine stand.
Once it was bolted to the floor a few weeks ago, I held the side of it and pulled with my full weight - It did not budge and with the 20mm MDF top, it will easily take the weight of anything I put on it. I also have a 3mm sheet of MDF on top of the 20mm MDF sheet as a sacrificial cover - which will need to replaced every now and then once I start fibreglassing on the benchtop, dropping resin all over the place :) To finish though, I simply need to screw on a couple of latches to keep the doors shut.

Later in the day, I turned my attention to cleaning out the white Mini of all it's rusty and useless parts that were dumped within the shell, and vacuumed out a couple of kilos of rust flakes (literally - I emptied the vacuum cleaner 3 times!). It's the first time I've had a really good look at the shell and the boot & rear panels are completely rusted out, the entire length of the sills also stuffed, the interior floor has a lot of surface rust but very dented from the underside and not in a good state. Next step - drain all fluids & start soaking everything in WD40 to remove the engine.
