What’s wrong with buying parts for a conversion before I’ve even got the car? Nothing! Last month I purchased a set of new spaced rear drums and a set of 2nd hand MG Metro 8.4″ vented 4 pot brakes (fitted to Mini disc hubs). The MG Metro brakes are a common “bolt on” conversion when increasing the power of any Mini and provide great stopping power.
Unfortunately “bolt-on” means the need for adjustable tie rods etc because of the massive negative camber it makes when fitted to a Mini. The Metro brakes also increase the front track of the Mini by 24mm (~12mm per side), hence the purchase of spaced rear drums as well.
The brakes really need a strip, clean and repaint :
