VH44 Brake booster bracket

In the middle of getting the gear shifter mounts done, I knocked up a mounting bracket for the brake booster. The booster I have is a fully reconditioned VH44 (from hydroboost.com.au) and will provide a more modern feel to the brakes. It was not specifically recommended by the engineeer but I have driven a 4E-FTE powered Mini a few years ago without a booster and to be honest it was a tad scary not having the braking power without having to really lean on the brake pedal - and not matching the engine power.

The booster will be mounted against the firewall above the gearbox. Recently I made a bracket with 1.4mm steel and even with some braces, I wasn't happy with the amount of flex it had in it so today I remade it with 3mm steel.

First design in 1.4mm

Second attempt in 3mm - no gussets required with the thicker steel

Note that bracket was designed so that the "nose" of the booster is angled upward slightly so that when the brakes are bled (from the nipple seen in the above pic), the air is easily bled out of the cylinder. The pic below of the bracket shows the front & rear plates of the bracket are not parallel which angles the booster.
